In an attempt to provide more resources for you and your small business, I offer these suggestions as a few areas to focus on this month. Remember the goal is progress, to make gains in your business each month.
July Newsletter: Clarity Creates Momentum
Are you actually moving closer to your goals, or are you just running faster on a treadmill that isn’t going anywhere?
It’s July 2026. We are officially on the "back nine" of the year.
For most business owners, the first six months were a blur of emails, fires to put out, and the constant hum of "busy." You might have the revenue to show for it, but do you have the freedom? Do you have the clarity?
If you feel like you’re doing everything yourself: wearing the hat of the CEO, the salesperson, and the janitor: then this mid-year reset is for you.
Growth isn't about adding more to your plate; it's about pruning what doesn't belong so the right things can thrive.
The Problem: The Mid-Year Drift
Most business owners start January with a "Vision Map" and a head full of steam. But by July, the "daily grind" has a way of eroding that vision.
You start making decisions based on the immediate crisis instead of the long-term strategy. You stop looking at your Scorecard because the numbers are stressful. You cancel your Leadership Huddles because "there's too much real work to do."
This is how businesses stall.
You aren't failing because you aren't working hard enough. You're likely working too hard on the wrong things. When you lose clarity, you lose the ability to lead.
The Trap: The "Busy" Illusion
The biggest trap in small business is equating motion with progress.
You think that because you're exhausted at 6:00 PM, you must be "scaling." But if your team isn't taking ownership and you can't step away for a week without the wheels falling off, you haven't built a business: you've built a high-stress job for yourself.
The "Busy Trap" sounds like this:
- "I'll look at the P&L next month when things quiet down."
- "It's faster if I just do it myself."
- "We don't need a formal process for this; we're a small team."
Real Talk: These aren't just excuses; they are the chains keeping you from the freedom you started this business to achieve. If you don't stop to audit your trajectory now, you’ll end up in December exactly where you are today: just more tired.
The Solution: The Mid-Year Audit
To regain momentum, you need to stop. You need to look at the cold, hard data and ask the "better questions" that lead to perspective shifts.
This month, we are focusing on Financial Clarity.
You cannot lead what you do not measure. A mid-year financial audit isn't about doing your taxes early; it's about understanding the health of your engine.

Your 4-Step Mid-Year Financial Reset
-
Clean the Books: Ensure every transaction from Q1 and Q2 is categorized. You can't make strategic decisions with messy data. If your bookkeeping is behind, contact a professional or block out a "Financial Sunday" to get it current.
-
The Recurring Expense Sweep: Export your last six months of credit card statements. Flag every recurring subscription. If it hasn't directly helped you find, win, or keep a customer in the last 90 days, cancel it.
-
Audit Your Margins: Are your prices still reflecting the reality of 2026? Look at your most popular services. If your margins have thinned due to rising costs, it's time for a "Profit Pivot."
-
Set Your Q3 Rocks: What are the 3-7 most important things you must accomplish in the next 90 days to stay on track? These aren't "to-do" items. They are high-level objectives that require focus.
Leadership Insight: The Power of Focus
> "Clarity creates focus. Focus creates progress. When you know what matters most, your decisions become easier and your execution becomes stronger." : Sean McCarthy
As a leader, your primary job is to provide clarity.
When you are clear on your numbers, your team knows what the Scorecard means. When you are clear on your vision, your Accountability Chart™ actually works because everyone knows their role.
Are you giving your team a clear target, or are you asking them to hit a moving goalpost while you're distracted by the "fire of the day"?
This Month’s Book Recommendation
Profit First by Mike Michalowicz

Most business owners use the "standard" accounting formula: Sales - Expenses = Profit.
The problem? Profit is always the leftover. And in a growing business, there are always more expenses to gobble up those leftovers.
In Profit First, Mike Michalowicz flips the script: Sales - Profit = Expenses.
By taking your profit first, literally moving it into a separate bank account before you pay a single bill: you force your business to become efficient. You force your expenses to fit what’s left. It sounds simple, but it is the most effective "cash-management system" I have ever seen for small business owners.
The 3 Fit Checks for your finances:
-
Do you Get it? Do you understand where your cash is actually going?
-
Do you Want it? Are you willing to make the hard cuts to be profitable?
-
Do you have the Capacity? Does your current business model support the margins you need?
Real Talk: The Discomfort of the Numbers
I know that looking at the numbers can be uncomfortable. For some of you, it’s downright scary.
It’s easier to just keep "doing" than it is to "analyze." But you didn't start this business to be a slave to a bank balance. You started it for freedom.
Accountability is the bridge between the life you have and the life you want.
If you're avoiding your Scorecard, you’re avoiding your growth. Take the 30 minutes. Run the audit. Face the truth. That is where the momentum begins.
Final Thought
You have six months left in 2026. You can spend them reacting, or you can spend them leading.
Clarity isn't something that happens to you; it’s something you create through intentional action and the willingness to ask the hard questions.
What is the one number in your business you’ve been avoiding?
Go look at it today.
Ready to Turn Chaos Into Clarity?
